PlayStation VR or PlayStation Virtual Reality, previously known as Project Morpheus during its development, is now 2 years old. And to celebrate it, here is a late review.
The PSVR was officially introduced on March 18 2014, at the Game Developerts Conference, and described as “the next innovation from PlayStation that will shape the future of games.” It is a virtual reality device that has a head-mounted display that is used just as it was a pair of glasses. It is designed by Sony Interactive Entertainment and produced by Sony. And it was released on October 13, 2016. Here a video that explains its features.
PlayStation VR (still known at that time as Project Morpheus) was seen and played for the first time on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, in 2014.
On March 15, 2016, at the Game Developers Conference of that year, Sony confirmed the prices of the PS VR for each region: $399 in the US, €399 in Europe, £349 in the UK, and 44,980 yen in Japan. These prices have been heavily critised because they equal and surpass the price of the Play Station 4 itself. However, Sony has stated several times that the device will be a top selling product because the realistic expectations are so impressive and the experience so immerisive that they predict good critics and a high interest that will grow steadily, through word of mouth.
